Harrisburg Gastroenterology provides an ongoing Open Access Screening Colonoscopy Program ( availability as of January 1, 2023 ), at Harrisburg Endoscopy and Surgery Center. Open Access colonoscopy allows healthy, age-appropriate patients to receive a screening colonoscopy without an office visit. This scheduling option simplifies the process, saving the patient time away from work or home and the expense of an office visit.

To refer patients directly for screening colonoscopy, please fax referrals to our main office at 717-545-1873 and indicate "open access" on the colonoscopy referral. Please include the most recent progress note.

Eligible patients must meet the following criteria:

• Age 45-75 years

• NO cardiac history

• No prescription blood thinners / antiplatelet therapy

• No insulin use

• BMI < 45

• No dialysis

• No supplemental oxygen use

• No gastrointestinal symptoms

*Upon further over the phone screening, we may decide that open access is not the safest decision and patients may be asked to come in for consultation.*
